VINCE NEIL Is 'Loving' His New 'Skating With The Stars' Gig
November 8, 2010MÖTLEY CRÜE singer Vince Neil spoke to Robin Leach of Las Vegas Weekly about Vince's daily five-plus hours of rehearsals for ABC's upcoming "Skating With The Stars" show, which is described as "Dancing With The Stars" on ice (and comes from the same producers).
"It's tough work," Vince said. "Sometimes six hours a day on the ice. You fall. It's cold. You hurt. But I'm loving it, and I think we're going to surprise fans and a whole new demographic of moms and grandmothers. I think I'd been on the ice just once since I was 12 years old. So this was a whole new experience that started a few weeks ago. I'm so into it we've even been on ice-skating dates! The show, of course, isn't just skating. We have choreographed dance routines to music." He added, "My only rule has been no feathers. No pink! I'm fortunate because ABC hired my tour designer to do my outfits for the show, so we'll be looking rock smart."
The other contenders on "Skating With The Stars" are Sean Young ("Blade Runner", "No Way Out"),reality star Bethenny Frankel, Olympic gold medal skier Jonny Moseley, "All My Children" actress Rebecca Budig and Brandon Mychal Smith of the Disney Channel sitcom "Sonny With a Chance".
"I've been known to be one of the bad boys of rock and roll," Neil said in a promo clip for the show (see below). "I think I'm gonna leave all that behind right now and just be the baddest guy on ice."
You've seen what happens when celebrities take on the ballroom... Now see what happens when they hit the ice on blades of steel, in "Skating With The Stars". The new series from BBC Worldwide Productions will pair celebrities with a world-class ice skater as they prepare to compete in front of a live audience in a televised ice skating competition. The skating pairs will be critiqued by a panel of expert judges and will receive a set of scores based on artistry and technique, and also by viewers at home, with one couple being eliminated each week.
"Skating With The Stars" will kick off its six-episode run with a live premiere episode on Monday, November 22 (9:00-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC television network.
"Skating With The Stars" is produced by BBC Worldwide Productions. Izzie Pick ("Dancing With The Stars" and the U.K.'s "Strictly Come Dancing") and Phil Edgar Jones ("Big Brother" and "Celebrity Big Brother") serve as executive producers. Paul Osborne ("I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here!" and "Secret Millionaire") will serve as co-executive producer. Alex Rudzinski ("Dancing With The Stars") will direct.
